When I was trying to eliminate soy and spend countless hours researching, I figure out that there are many words that for ingredients derived from soy or that can contain soy.

Soy Avoid foods that contain soy or any of these ingredients:

  • Bean curd
  • Bean sprouts
  • Edamame (fresh soybeans)
  • Hydrolyzed soy protein (HSP)
  • Kinako
  • Kouridofu
  • Miso (fermented soybean paste)
  • Mono- and di-glycerides
  • MSG (monosodium glutamate)
  • Natto
  • Nimame
  • Okara
  • Shoyu
  • Soy (cheese, fiber, grits, mil, nuts, yougurd, pasta…)
  • Soy lecithin (may contain soy protein)
  • Soy oil (may contain soy protein)
  • Soy sauce
  • Soya
  • Soybean (curds, granules)
  • Tamari
  • Tempeh
  • Teriyaki sauce
  • Textured soy flour (TSF)
  • Texture soy protein (TSP)
  • Texture vegetable protein (TVP)
  • Tofu (dofu, kori-dofu)
  • Yuba

Some times contains soy:

  • Hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP)
  • Hydrolyzed plant protein (HPP)
  • Natural Flavoring
  • Vegetable broth, gum and starch
  • Vegetable oil (usually 100% soy oil or blend)
